Q&A with our lovely Madeleine!

Sophie Hitchens Tuesday 10th October 2017

Madeleine is the glue to Light Locations! Madeleine is our location Co Ordinator and is the main point of contact for all our clients and owners. She spends a large amount of her time sitting in her posh Herman Miller chair at her computer answering the endless in flux of emails coming in each day, co ordinating the busy diary of options and bookings and doing the paperwork for the shoots. This requires a great deal of organisation and skill and Madeleine is a pro at it! All our clients and owners love dealing with Madeleine and we love working with her in the office too! She is a joy to have around and is a valuable part of the Light Locations team!

What did you do in the years before working at Light Locations?

Before Light Locations I have done quite a mix of different jobs, but it’s mainly always followed a photographic or creative path.

I went on to do an art & design diploma then study photography at university. I graduated in 2009 and went on to do some freelance work for a local creative agency in my home town, working in local schools and colleges on various art projects with other artists. It was really good fun and I enjoyed the mix of work that I was involved in – including meeting the queen at her jubilee at Salisbury cathedral!

I then landed an exciting job in London for the 2012 Olympics –  working with Cadbury at this amazing blow up house in Hyde Park. It was a really fun experience to be part of the busyness and energy during that special time. After the Olympics I worked in events and conferencing for an orthopaedic company and the British Acupuncture Council, before finding Light Locations! I can’t believe I have now been here for three and half years!

What part of your job is your favourtite part?

There are so many aspects of my job here that I really enjoy, but if I had to name my favourite part it would be speaking to lovely stylists and owners on the phone and helping them to bring a new brief to life and find the perfect location for their shoot. Seeing how crews really transform the house completely is just amazing – especially when they use fake snow for the festive shoots! I also love visiting our locations and meeting the lovely owners. I don’t get to do this very often but I have just had some great days out of the office visiting some which I enjoyed!

What do your parents do for a living?

My parents are a great inspiration to me and have had some really interesting careers – they met at university studying English then went in to teaching for many years. My mum is now an acupuncturist, but also a very talented poet – she recently won an award in America for some of her work! My dad is now an educational adviser, he’s recently been working on and off in Brunei in schools out there training teachers from all around the globe.

What is a favourite family memory that has stuck with you in to your adult life?

My love for art and photography stems right back to memories I have of my grandads art shop in Norfolk. I can still smell the shop and the smoke from my grandads pipe that filled the space. I remember when we would visit, my grandad would let me wander around the shop and pick out something arty to take home

A fun fact about yourself!

I am a qualified holistic massage therapist and I’ve passed my PADI Open Water Diving qualification (although I’ve sadly not used it since taking the exam in Thailand)…I got to swim with a beautiful green turtle.

Which is your favourite season?

My favourite season would have to be Peony and Blossom season. They just make me so happy! Also, the Summer as thats when my birthday is!

What outdoor activities do you most enjoy?

My family have always loved the outdoors so I’ve grown up feeling very comfortable outside and in the wild. My parents took me and my brother away on lots of adventurous holidays when I was younger so I’ve been lucky to experience quite a lot. I used to be a really keen runner when I was younger and I’m trying to get back into it now… but it’s hard to motivate myself after a days work sometimes 🙂

What is the best thing in your life right now?

I have a 3 and half year old nephew, Joel who is just amazing – he’s a sparkle of happiness and energy in my life. He has a little brother on the way too so very soon there will be 2 little nephews to bring joy into my life, I can’t wait!

My perfect day would be…

I’m an absolute sun seeker so it would have to involve the sunshine, sea and a good book!
