Celebrating the Rise of Bespoke with Design by Timber
The tides of mass production and conformity in furniture fashion have turned. Gone are the days when a period in time could be identified by the floral patterns of the 1970s, geometric designs of the 80s or the high gloss orange lacquer of the 90s.
The 21st century has seen the desire grow to own something quirky, unusual and totally unique. A statement piece that no one has seen before, that will start a conversation, and the appeal of which won’t fade as fashions come and go.
Modern designs have also evolved towards the aspiration to maximise space and function. As the cost of moving home increases and housing market stability fluctuations, more people choose to upgrade their existing home and maximise their current space.

Much of the bespoke projects that Design by Timber undertake, centre on multifunctional design to incorporate functionality with originality. Their most popular commissions centre around dining tables made to create a statement and children’s bedroom furniture that match practicality with fun.
The bespoke dining tables that Design by Timber have created often emphasise the sheer beauty of wood, such as the simplicity and elegance of oak in their chunky dining table. This table was commissioned by a client with a particular design in mind and specific (very large) dimension requirements. The result was a stunning handcrafted 4 metre table that was so large it took 6 people to deliver!
By venturing into the imagination of children, Design by Timber creations capture the essence of playful childhood dreams. Backed with Tim’s passion for locally sourced materials, he creates designs made to maximise space and merge function with fun.
Many of Tim’s designs especially the Tree Den project utilise raised areas to create more floor space, hidden dens and creative play spaces.
