With many of us spending more time at home than normal this spring, gardens have become an increasingly important extension of our living space. Thankfully the sun has been kind to us in recent weeks allowing many people to enjoy and work on their precious outside havens.
As we’ve been spending extra time eating meals and relaxing in our own gardens, we looked to 2 of our favourite exteriors for a touch of alfresco living inspiration. Both of these stunning locations often play host to outdoor furniture shoots which successfully whet our appetites for sun-filled adventures at home.
To galvanise your garden goals and energise your exterior ideas take a virtual visit with us to the outside spaces at Cotswold Barn and Winchester House.
This converted barn near Malmesbury in the Cotswolds boasts beautifully manicured gardens set against distinctive Cotswold stone architecture. Step through the stone wall and you find the hidden haven of an exquisite pool and pool house, a favourite spot for Light Locations clients to focus their outdoor photoshoots.
The overall design of the main gardens focuses on expansive lawns, manicured hedges and beautiful swathes of white hydrangeas. Whilst these are long-term garden goals, inspiration for short-term impact can be taken from lavenders set in gravel and large uniform planters with simple green foliage.
Whilst none of the Light Location team are lucky enough to own fabulous outdoor spaces on the scale of Winchester House and Cotswold Barn, we all have at least a little outdoor space to call our own. These 2 fabulous homes have certainly got our creative juices flowing for a garden revamp to make the most of outdoor living this year.
Winchester House is a stunning contemporary home in Hampshire, with an award-winning outside space. Judged the best residential garden in the prestigious Society of Garden Designers (SGD) Awards 2019, it was described as a ‘beautifully simple, calm and coherent garden. A very accomplished and relaxing space’.
The outside space appeals to many of our clients, particularly the decked area and the swimming pool which both enjoy beautiful views of the remarkable landscaped garden. The overall garden design focuses on a strong structure of contemporary grasses highlighted with simple but striking purple alliums. The result is a handsome design that is realistic to implement.
