Looking Back at Our 2022 Highlights

Sophie Hitchens Tuesday 03rd January 2023

As we begin the New Year fresh from a festive break and eager to set new plans, we took a moment to reflect on what took place over the previous 12 months. 2022 was a year that saw a return to normality after the turmoil of 2020 and 2021.

We reminded ourselves of many great memories, from a raft of new locations to returning to our original team. Here are the highlights.

An Array of New Locations

2022 was a busy year for taking on new locations beginning in February with the utterly stunning The Elms. A timber-clad, eco house set in a beautifully landscaped plot, this breathtaking home had featured in Channel 4’s Grand designs. And the year ended with equal delight when we added The Gatehouse to our choice of shoot spaces in November. An exquisite conversion filled with gorgeous open spaces, high ceilings and original beams, The Gatehouse also offers lime-plastered walls, large whitewashed brick walls, Crittall windows, and heaps of natural light.

Every one of our new locations for 2022 is incredible and has unique character and charm. On top of The Elms and The Gatehouse, we also added:

  • Clay House: A stunning Victorian terrace transformed into a masterpiece of design and made it to our No 1 location of 2022!
  • The Flower Factory: A gorgeous creative lifestyle space in the hub of London’s East End.
  • Bennet Street: A handsome five-level Georgian house in Bath.
  • Vine Cottage: A beautiful country cottage with a stylishly chic studio and delightful shepherd’s hut.
  • Sixteen Country House and Cottage: A sizeable Edwardian house packed with original features and overflowing with impressive contemporary touches.
  • The Orangery: An impressive 18th Century empty space with glorious floor-to-ceiling windows
  • Spring Cottage: A gloriously rustic and quintessential English Cotswold stone cottage full of charm and character
  • Morocco Street: A highly desirable open-plan ground floor office/studio space in central London

Updates and Refreshes

As well as discovering plenty of new places to shoot, 2022 was a year for catching up with refreshing existing locations with new photography. This included Forest House, Cotswold Barn, Palace Road, Huron Road, Marmora Road, St Francis House and Church Road.

To help us stay on top of these updates with gorgeous new imagery, Sophie began working with James Gardiner, a highly skilled and fabulous photographer. James is a joy to work with, and with Sophie, the duo makes a great team. so thank you, James, for coming on board.

Office Changes

With an office dominated by women there is always something going on in the Light Locations office with us all juggling work with family life!

2022 saw Madeleine’s turn to take her maternity after the birth of her little boy, Billy in September 2021 so we had the lovely Chloe join the team until September when she handed back the reins to Madeleine. Chloe was a great addition to the team, and we were sad to say goodbye to her but she is now embracing the next exciting chapter of her career.

With Madeleine back in the fold, our original team of 4 is back and we all love cooing over photos of little Billy. Super cute!

A Gently Shifting Industry

2022 saw the photoshoot industry adapt back to standard shoot patterns after Covid. As restrictions gradually relaxed, only a few clients continued to test by the end of the year. We greatly welcomed the transition and certainly didn’t miss the extra admin that the Covid years brought with them.

As normality returned, we saw a gentle shift in how shoots took place. Clients are working their teams harder to fit as much photography as possible on shoot days. Perhaps as a result of the shifting economic climate around us, it will be interesting to see if this continues through the coming years. With relaxed shoot schedules replaced by the faster pace and more logistically challenging briefs, it certainly kept us on our toes.

Another Year Over

So, there we have it, the 2022 highlights for the Light Locations team. All in all, it was a busy year with a strong sense of normality back in place and exciting new challenges to navigate. We are incredibly excited for 2023, not least to introduce you to some fantastic new locations on the horizon.
