On Location with OKA at Upton House

Tabitha Paradise Friday 17th January 2025

As we ease into January’s frosted days, the twinkle and glimmer of the festive season seems to fade with each passing moment. Cosy afternoons by the fire clinking glasses have been replaced with the return to work and fresh action. What a joy it is then to look back to OKA’s Christmas Campaign, which captures those peaceful days of slower living amongst glittering lights and rich home comforts.

The Magic of OKA

OKA is a home and lifestyle brand who describe themselves as having “a love affair with living well”. Their collections feature a blend of hand-picked global treasures with a sophisticated British edge, created to encourage enjoying memorable moments with friends and family. They are known for their bold patterns and decadent deep colours that evoke a sense of easy-going elegance.

Their new selection of Christmas imagery showcases a sophisticated yet inviting collection, bathed in wintery light and deep shadows. From the thrown open doors adorned with wreaths to the cosy ambience of a lovingly layered bedroom, the image set seems to weave the story of a home ready to welcome friends and family for the festive season.

Creating Christmas in Summer

As is often the way with homeware brands, this shoot took place in August and used clever direction to create the feeling of December. The usually crisp and light rooms of Upton House feel suddenly more moody, creating intimate scenes peppered with the warm glow of candles and fairy lights.

Beautifully styled by Glen Probespel and photographed by Debi Treloar, each scene feels understated yet full of comforting details. The earthy palette feels grounded whilst still luxurious, with subtle emeralds and deep reds firmly setting the scene for Christmas.

Shooting at Upton House

A gorgeous Grade II listed building between Bath and Bristol, Upton House has been incredibly popular and was even our top location of the year for 2024. This may be due to its stunning open plan living spaces complete with a plethora of period features. These spaces still feel contemporary however, and that blend of old and new is surely what brought OKA to this location; The combination of ornate details in a distinctly modern home feels so in line with their brand ethos.

The panelled windows really shine here, their tall panelled shutters acting as the perfect backdrop for a grand Christmas tree. The entrance hall also looks particularly lovely, the cascading light capturing the tactile textures of the traditional wooden door all complemented by OKA’s natural palette. Another view shows the carved wooden stairway lined with glowing tea lights leading to the temptingly lit abundance of presents at the base, a perfect ode to the delights of Christmas morning.

Though December may be over and fond memories drifting away, the New Year brings with it new inspiration. As we wind back up into photoshoot planning, scenes of Summer and Winter are surely on the horizon again, waiting to be created and captured by talented teams once more.
