Tucked away in the countryside village of Upton Cheyney, Upton House is truly a hidden gem of the South West. This beautifully finished family home offers inspiration at every turn, and with excellent access and parking options, it makes for a stress-free shoot day every time.
Let’s take a look at the unique features that drew us to this enchanting property and why we think it will be a photoshoot hotspot this year.
We added this location to our collection in the depths of winter, our first shoot day falling on a particularly grey and drizzly November morning. Despite the weather, the interior of the property felt inviting and serene, and by the time the rain clouds had parted and sunshine was pouring through the bay windows, the house was glowing.
The beauty of this grade II listed property lies in the perfect balance of old and new. Its stunning period features, be it the wooden beams or the ornate carved staircase, are cleverly complemented by clean lines and thoughtfully selected tones. The arched stone windows are particularly striking, framed by crisp white panelling in the main living area and a soft blue in the library room, dappled sunlight filtering in through the fluttering leaves outside.
Each room feels carefully assembled, contemporary abstract art and pops of colour sit alongside original fireplaces and decorative coving. The modern dining room extension brings even more open space, with timeless crittal windows pouring light onto the herringbone floors. Upstairs the attention to detail continues, with the stunning main bathroom marrying soft pink walls with a powder blue freestanding bath. We love the character-filled window seats and shimmering wall tiles in this room, and the way the soft blue continues through into the panelled bedroom.
This property embodies the word “versatile”, offering a plethora of tones, textures and features to explore and capture in photography. So many styles would feel at home here, with colours ranging from vibrant to muted and plenty of architectural details to choose from. Its open plan living area and spacious room are ideal for giving a sense of scale on larger shoots, as well as creating a practical and relaxed space to work in.
Upton House offers a wonderful outdoor space too, creating even more options on shoot days. Its picturesque facade is teeming with British character, with a stone-walled patio surrounded by flowers and climbing leaves. The swimming pool and pool house look out over a stunning view, the perfect spot for summer scenes come sunshine season.
With such a variety of spaces to choose from, Upton House is definitely a location to watch this year. We certainly can’t wait to revisit its grounds this Spring and capture even more of its unique charm.
