As blue skies and summer sunshine paint the sky, it’s time to gather together for alfresco feasts, garden parties and evenings beneath the stars. Creating these scenes of garden bliss requires remarkable outdoor spaces; inspiring locations that are able to elevate products and tell a soulful story.

Located near Malmesbury, Cotswold Barn brings together traditional sandy toned stone with impeccably pruned plants over it’s sprawling grounds. It’s a property that’s perfect for outdoor dining pieces, with it’s largest rear patio offering plenty of space for larger sets and decorated with olive trees just waiting to be laden with festoons. In front of it’s iconic arched window lies a sea of topiary and climbing flowers, an ideal backdrop for morning coffee at a bistro set or classic bench. In addition, this home features a sparkling outdoor pool with another sun-kissed patio; a prime spot for shooting full summer banquets, with plenty of room for parasols and loungers too.
Another destination for dining pieces is Upton House, a striking grade II listed property between Bath and Bristol. It’s main patio lies at the front of the house, showcasing it’s stunning period windows framed by climbing foliage – an idyllic setting for sunset canapés. Upton House also has it’s own pool, complete with another patio, a pool house and an outdoor kitchen ideal for whipping up picnic recipes. There are manicured lawns and trees aplenty, not to mention lots of lovely corners for smaller pieces like benches or tea for two sets.
Despite being located in London, Victoria Road’s outdoor space is an oasis of calm. The contemporary extension of this Victorian home leads out onto a lush green garden with sharp-lined patios and clever water installations, with plenty of modern textures to play with. It’s covered seating area works wonderfully for corner sofas and cushioned pieces layered with tactile throws, accented by the dappled sunlight falling through the trees.

The countryside setting of The Rectory means picturesque scenes as far as the eye can see, as well as easy access for large furniture. It’s glasshouse is a truly stunning space, offering gorgeous light and subtle texture whether shooting from outside or within. Beyond those tapered doors and lavender-lined paths lies another stone patio, with french doors and full flower beds on every side. Even further across the grounds lies a small lake with it’s own deck, a sweet hidden spot for shooting armchairs huddled beside fire pits in the fading tones of twilight.

For a more rustic look, Forest House offers plenty of woodland areas and outbuildings to explore. It’s leaf-lined decks work for compact dining furniture whilst the variety of wooden textures work with functional pieces like log stores and gardening tools. The side terraces of the property make for cosy relaxed seating spots, with the inky black cladding acting as a gorgeously moody backdrop for blanket-covered armchairs for colder days.
The cleverly converted Ham House brings old and new textures together seamlessly whilst still looking beautiful amongst the Wiltshire landscape. The grounds include an orchard and a wildflower garden that shoots well all year round, although particularly striking when rich with rusty tones in the Autumn months. The property’s huge glass doors bring the outside in at every turn, and open out onto a sizeable patio ideal for deep sofas or modular sets. Along the edge lie pretty lavender and verbena flowers, perfect for adding a splash of colour to the foreground of the frame.
Although it may have it’s challenges, shooting outdoors can also be extremely rewarding. Whatever the season, creating those moments amongst the beauty of nature is a joyous endeavour, capturing the changing light as it filters through gently swaying trees.
